If I Remember Half a Lifetime of Love (Short Story)

'Life slips by, the song ends, and the years flow on. If being together is too hard, let our wish be fulfilled across three lifetimes. I still remember the smile between your brows and eyes. I guard the River of Forgetfulness alone, waiting three lifetimes for love to take shape, only for it to end when the flowers on the other shore bloom. Our fate has already ended; why cling to thoughts of longing?' He swore a bitter oath to be entangled with him for three lifetimes. He searched for him in life after life, missing him countless times. In this life, they met at the moment one of them was to be scattered to the winds, only to part again. Perhaps their fates were never meant to cross from the moment their entanglement began. If so, then there was no past-life bond to bring to an end. This story is very short and a little stream-of-consciousness, so it's okay if you don't understand it~ It's a birthday gift for a friend. I originally wrote just a set of lyrics, but they sparked an idea that grew into this story. Please don't mind that the lyrics aren't very good. I'll include them at the end. The original song is Dong Zhen's 'Sword Rises, Blue Waves'~ Those who care about historical accuracy and every tiny detail, please go easy on me~ Theme:
