At the meeting point of the sky's farthest reaches and the ends of the earth, a wisp of pale purple mist appeared, stretching across vast, rippling clouds that rolled like a sea. It seemed as though mountains were clustered there, their peaks steep and craggy. Legend had it that someone once happened to witness this strange sight and immediately ascended to become an immortal.
And so, people came to speak of four realms: the Heavenly Realm, the Earthly Realm, the Underworld, and the Borderlands. The Heavenly Realm was home to immortals, the Underworld a den for demons and ghosts, and the Earthly Realm the humble abode of ordinary folk. The Borderlands, however, were a place of utmost mystery, where immortals, gods, and spirits all gathered to live in perfect harmony. Unlike the Heavenly Realm, it had no endless rules and restrictions; unlike the Underworld, it wasn't shrouded in a ghostly gloom; and unlike the Earthly Realm, it was free of scheming, power struggles, and ambition. Its people could love freely, leave lost valuables untouched, and... In short, it was the true paradise that people of the Earthly Realm yearned for.
But was it really as they imagined?…
