(Hakuoki) Morning Dew

I would give a lifetime in exchange for a love with you as brief as the morning dew., Author's note (Many thanks to Chun Liangzi for kindly letting me use this line.)

"Why must women endure such treatment? I will become the oiran, and make every man crawl before me like a dog, wagging his tail and begging for mercy!"

Shimabara in Kyoto: a paradise for men and a hell for women.

There is no true affection here, only deceit and empty pretenses. The ugly, sorrowful truth lies hidden beneath the dazzling, hazy splendor of the pleasure quarter.

Here, Asatsuyu, a candidate for oiran, meets Harada Sanosuke, captain of the Shinsengumi's Tenth Unit.

A short story, with no chapters written in advance and an irregular update schedule. The Shinsengumi will be all but absent from this story. It is mainly a romance and does not involve the great upheavals and brutal conflicts of the Bakumatsu era. If that's not to your taste, please don't read.
