When Pangu created heaven and earth, the primordial chaos split into three realms: the Celestial Realm, the Mortal Realm, and the Nether Realm. The peoples of the three realms cultivated their own paths, giving rise to the Immortal Way of the gods, the Demon Way of mortals, and the Devil Way of the demon clans.
There is a legend in the Mortal Realm that a thousand years ago, the demon clan's Red Demon King, the Ten-Thousand-Tailed Fox, wrought havoc across the three realms. Knowing the fox was powerful and should not be underestimated, the God King dispatched the Celestial Realm's Sacred Tiger Guard to slay him.
The Immortal Way's Sacred Tiger and the Devil Way's demon fox fought in the Mortal Realm. Their battle raged for a hundred years, and in the end, the fox proved stronger. He drove the Sacred Tiger's soul into a spirit-infused boulder, then struck it with the last of his strength, burying it deep in the mountains. The blow was so powerful that it split the mountain with a fissure stretching for dozens of miles.
Yet when the dust settled, all that remained was a mountain, a fissure, and a boulder. The demon fox was nowhere to be seen.
Some say the fox died after using the last of his strength to defeat the Sacred Tiger. Others say the Ten-Thousand-Tailed Fox is immortal, and must have retreated to some remote mountain forest to recover...
Let me make this clear: the demon fox is just a minor character. The Sacred Tiger is the protagonist. This is not some clichéd tale of love and hatred between gods and demons!
