Song of the Li People

After illness, my hair at the temples has turned gray. I lie watching the waning moon rise above the window screen. Simmering cardamom pods and stems in water, I drink it warm. No need for tea. Poetry and books are best enjoyed at leisure from my pillow; the rain makes the view outside my door even lovelier. All day, I face people with quiet grace, like the sweet osmanthus in bloom.
