Across the land of Fenghua, heroes vie for supremacy. On the night of his wedding, Prince Ye Xun of the Ming Kingdom elopes with his beloved, Tang Wan of the Tang Sect. But along the way, he is poisoned. With nowhere else to turn, they seek refuge with Xuantian, the greatest sect in the Central Plains. Its leader, Jiang Cheng, has loved Tang Wan since childhood, but she never returned his feelings. Enraged at the sight of the two together, he has them locked behind the Twelfth Gate. Three days later, the prince dies from the poison. Tang Wan gives birth to a son in Xuantian, murmuring to herself as she delivers him, eyes wide open, her hair turning white overnight. Unable to bear the sight, Jiang Cheng and Su Mang, the Carefree Divine Physician, raise the child in the sect and name him Jing Xian.

That same year, Su Mang's wife gives birth to a son. The baby neither cries nor fusses, has strangely colored eyes, and speaks and walks like an ordinary person. Astonished, they name him Yue.

And so the Yin and Yang twin meridians appear once more in the world.
