My Heart Yearns for the Moon

When bad luck strikes, it really hits hard. All I did was fire someone I couldn’t stand, and that guy actually pushed me down the stairs. It was bad enough that I landed without an ounce of dignity, but I still had plenty of time left to live. Then the famous Black and White Impermanence mistook me for someone else and took me to the underworld. Afterward, they told me with innocent faces that they’d mixed up the records and brought the wrong person. And worst of all, Little White had eaten the only herb that could bring me back to life as a snack. Heavens, do you have nothing better to do than mess with me like this? Luckily, Little White and Little Black were decent ghosts. They planned to make me wait a year, until the herb grew back, before sending me home. But I still had time left to live, so I couldn’t stay in the underworld. And so, the only thing to do was... transmigrate, and borrow someone else’s body!

Shangguan Yun: My demands aren’t high. You know I was at least a young lady in my previous life, so the body I borrow has to belong to a rich young lady. If she doesn’t have money, she needs to have influence instead (aren’t those two usually linked anyway?). As for looks, she doesn’t have to be the most beautiful woman under heaven, but she should be second-best. I don’t want to look in the mirror every day and think I’m seeing a ghost. Most importantly, she has to be healthy. I’m not a fan of frail, sickly beauties who make everyone feel sorry for them.

Little White and Little Black (with countless Shin-chan-style black lines appearing over their heads) exclaimed in unison: “You call that a small demand? If people in the mortal world had even one of those qualities, who’d want to die? We have principles, you know. For a soul swap, we have to find someone willing whose allotted lifespan hasn’t run out.”

Shangguan Yun: So you won’t help me?

Little White and Little Black were clearly powerless to help.

Shangguan Yun: You’re bullying me! I’m going to complain to the King of Hell. I’ll tell everyone in the world, all the ghosts, and all the gods too that Black and White Impermanence made a mistake and refuse to take responsibility!

Good grief! Black: Little White, this demon is all your fault.

White: Hehe, Little Black, you’re the best. Let’s find this demon a body first.
