I remember seeing a monk with a slightly hunched back on the way back. He wore a thin, gray-green robe and was slowly making his way down a steep, winding path. The wind blew, and the setting sun fell across his back as dry leaves from a nearby Chinese parasol tree drifted down. It was as if I suddenly realized that Baotong was a temple, an ordinary temple commercialized like any other, yet still one where you could feel peace and solemnity.
