The Smiling, Proud Wanderer is my favorite of Jin Yong's works. I love that free-spirited rogue, and I love the beautiful, clever Miss Ren. The greatest impression the story left on me is that right and wrong are hard to distinguish. But in my story, I speak only of love: a romance that's a little foolish and a little carefree, yet has a happy ending. Many people have wondered how deeply Linghu Chong loves Ren Yingying, and how that love compares with what he felt for his junior sister. But what I want to express is that love isn't always just romance. Friendship and family are important parts of it, too. A bond of standing by one another and growing old together moves the heart more deeply than a turbulent infatuation. Love is like fine wine, mellow and fragrant; like green bamboo, it stays fresh through the years.
