The Tourmaline Ring

Even the finest tourmaline can have flaws. Hold it up to the light and you can see fine cracks, not on the surface but deep in the heart and lungs. These cracks are called ice fractures: cold and fragile. The better the tourmaline, the less visible the ice fractures, but no matter how good it is, they can never be entirely avoided. They are a hidden danger, like happiness: dazzling, yet unable to withstand a blow. If love never changes, perhaps it cannot be called love. The pain is impossible to hide. Who would risk everything for whom?
