In a picturesque Jiangnan town, a beautiful childhood encounter leaves its mark. To keep a promise, Mu Banxia, who comes from a family of doctors, leaves her parents behind and heads north to study medicine. Banxia believes that Su Ye, a talented postgraduate student in general surgery, is the Ye-gege she has been looking for. To Su Ye, Banxia is the brightest splash of color in his dull medical life. When Su Ye is gone, Rong Aiye appears and lights up Mu Banxia's life once more. Rong Aiye and Su Ye look remarkably alike. What tangled connections are there between them? Which of them is the Aye from that little town all those years ago? Because of Su Ye, Banxia chooses to pursue surgery. How will she find her way forward in a medical field dominated by men?
Eileen Chang once said, "The best material is the material you know most deeply." That's why I chose medicine as the setting for my first full-length novel. The book is already being serialized on Jinjiang. Friends who have read it usually ask, "Is Banxia based on you?" I want to say that Banxia is simply a composite of the many women studying medicine. She is kind, hardworking, and dedicated, pressing on along the long road of medicine.
Growing up is never smooth sailing. There are the sweetness and pain of family, friendship, and love; the heavy coursework at medical school; and the long stretches of pressure from working in a hospital. But with conviction, even when exhausted in body and mind, you still want to keep going. Banxia's character has been elevated for the story, but some of the little anecdotes are based on real experiences. The romance is fictional, so please just enjoy it as a love story. There's no need to match the characters to real people.
