Not many people are into the Ma-Zhao pairing, probably because there are so many Pi-Yun fans. But Wuye still thinks Ma-Zhao are the most canon couple among the Three Kingdoms cast.
I wrote Ma-Zhao because I've loved Yunmei since I was a kid. I didn't pay much attention to Silly Chao. I just memorized the Five Tiger Generals and knew a little about them.
In Romance of the Three Kingdoms, these two barely interact beyond the bit where they reach Mianzhu, Big-Ears invites Silly Chao to drink, and Yunmei takes the opportunity to kill two Shu generals. Silly Chao is deeply impressed, and so on... But I don't believe that's all there is. Master Luo Guan Shui always condenses the most essential details, and when reading the novel, every word matters.
The story may follow historical events, but some things will be changed. Readers who insist on strict historical accuracy, please take note.
The story centers on Shu, because Wuye is a devoted Shu fan.
The people of Shu will have no dark sides. If that's not your thing, please take note.
