The awkward coming-of-age story of a naturally spacey girl, caught in a monster boy's cycle of oppression and being oppressed, until he devours her whole!! I don't know why, but I like Wakana's mom more than Yamakaze Otome. Even though Ribahn and Yamakaze's love moved me, and even though Yamakaze, like Mom, is a little spacey, I don't think that means Wakana has to be nothing more than a substitute. Yamakaze is as gentle as water. I want to cherish and protect her, and her goodness and kindness move me. But Wakana is like the warm winter sun, bringing heartfelt warmth and brightness, driving away the gloom in one's heart. Her smile is beautiful. Every word and action of hers reflects sunlight. Only after being gazed upon by those warm, steadfast eyes could Ribahn open his heart again, centuries after Yamakaze left. Mom is different. That's what I've always thought. Sometimes I even wonder: Ribahn, who was often nowhere to be found in the manga, the Ribahn that Shu and even Yamakaze could never find, would he come home on time every day after he had Mom? No matter how far away he was, just for a smile like that. If Ribahn were Kenshin, Yamakaze would be Yukishiro Tomoe, then Mom would be Kamiya Kaoru. Kenshin never forgot Yukishiro Tomoe, yet he still found happiness with Kaoru. I also admire Mom's strength. As far as I remember, she only cried when Ribahn passed away. The rest of the time, she was always smiling. She was optimistic and believed in her children. After Ribahn left, she shouldered the burden of Rikuo and their family with her frail shoulders.
