The Rest of Life Between River and Sea

The Legend of Qin. From Funiang's perspective, with the whole cast. When I learned from a woodcutter who had gone into the mountains to gather firewood that Zhang Liang, the marquis who once planned everything with such foresight, had passed away from illness some time ago, I suddenly realized that no one keeps track of the years in the mountains. A blink, and decades had passed. I have lived in these woods for decades. The villagers nearby call me "the Mountain Hermit." I have never told them that before the collapsing roof beam crushed my legs, I once stood before five thousand Qin cavalry at the Little Sage's Manor, calmly drawing the renowned sword Tai'a. Now the name Funiang has long since faded from the world, and the Tai'a sword hanging on the wall is covered in dust. I turned my wheelchair and unrolled a fresh bamboo slip on my desk. The world flows on like water, and life and death are unpredictable. I want to set down the people and events I've encountered. These stories are brief. Some I witnessed myself; others I know only from a few words of hearsay. I record them on bamboo slips to bring some comfort to my remaining years. I lowered my brush and wrote four characters: The Last Years by Rivers and Seas.
