In the 1970s, the young Scottish doctor Nicholas Goricken (James McAvoy) came to impoverished Uganda with high ambitions and the great ideal of saving lives and healing the poor people. Here he met the beautiful Sarah (Gillian Anderson), a white colleague from the medical association, and was deeply attracted to her.
At a certain rally, Nicholas was able to meet Ugandan President Andy Amin (Forest Whitaker). Nicholas was fascinated by Amin's remarks and even worshiped him fanatically. The film is adapted from the novel of the same name by Giles Foden. The leading actor Forest Whitaker won the Best Actor Award at the 79th Academy Awards for this film.
