Synopsis

The sixteen-year-old stood alone at the temple gate, feeling afraid for the first time. Frowning, he wanted to retrace his steps, but the moonless black pine forest was so dark he could not see his hand before his face. He had already lost his bearings. The boy regretted his impulsiveness. He gripped the hilt of his sword and, with a sigh, sat down on the steps. The stone steps were cracked and badly worn, yet not a speck of dust lay on them.
