The story begins in the fictional city of Liujiang, a northern city with four distinct seasons. A few young people from humble backgrounds begin their high school lives. Everything seems especially calm and slow-paced, filled with the unique yearning and fascination people feel for a vast metropolis, like the intense summer-afternoon sunlight, splashed across the sky like ink. It is in this setting that the story begins.
Then these most ordinary high school students each begin their own journeys through life. Chang Yongyi, from a single-parent family, lives in a truly terrible situation. After once wanting to end her life, she is lovingly cared for by a boy named Xia Yu. With all his sincerity, he looks after her with the patience of water wearing away stone. The bond between them transcends friendship and romance, as pure and clear as white clouds and blue skies. Yu Miao, who comes from a poor family, dreams of entering the gates of Peking University and becoming a man who can hold his head high.
Later, Xia Yu drops out and leaves school. In this world of glittering excess, Chang Yongyi knows how difficult life is. She understands what she must do to change her future, and so she struggles over the pursuit of Li Gang, a rich young heir, unable to let go of the little moments she shared with Xia Yu. Lin Quan is a girl of unearthly beauty! Just awakening to love, she secretly loves Yu Miao, who devotes his whole life to striving forward. But because of his family's humble background, Yu Miao closes his eyes and painfully turns her down time and again... And so the story begins, full of tender longing and heartbreak!
