Guan Boya has two identities.
By day, she's a socially anxious graduate student, ostracized by her labmates and reduced to tears by her advisor's public scoldings.
At night, she's the popular cosplayer "Guanguan Jiujiu."
The one person who keeps her going is her top-ranking supporter, "Zai Hezhouzhou." Every time her senior labmate Qin Yu berates her until she breaks down, he's there to comfort her.
Then one day, Guan Boya asks Zhouzhou to meet in person, but he turns her down with all kinds of excuses. Everyone says online dating is full of ugly slobs, and Zhouzhou must be one too.
Guan Boya refuses to believe it. She secretly checks Zhouzhou's social media and shows up as a guest at the comic convention he's attending, thinking she's charging into battle for love.
Then she takes a closer look.
Her top supporter is the most detestable senior in her lab.

As a doctoral student, Qin Yu is best at writing papers and worst at talking to Guanguan.
At first, he wants to send Guanguan a paper, but his roommate tells him that true love means helping the other person grow.
Qin Yu takes that to heart.
If that's the case, then he'll make Guan Boya the best graduate student in the lab.
