In East Asia, many children's youth is always shrouded in a layer of damp rain. They may find things unsatisfying as adults, but they can never again experience that gloomy, clammy feeling from back then.
The protagonist, He Qin, and her friends are among the many children growing up in East Asian families. As a teenager, she felt stifled and unhappy. Later, after reading San Mao's The Rainy Season Will Never Return, she finally understood what that feeling was.
The rainy season of youth can bring downpours or a fine drizzle. Sun showers are common, too, but the days are never too bright, nor too dark.
School is a monster that devours people, and home is a harbor of conflict. She is always wearing a damp sweater.
And, for a very long time, she secretly liked an outstanding girl.
That girl was called Yin Mo.
She tried hard to chase after her, but always felt that she was hollow inside. She didn't dare to keep going.
A friend's death, her parents' divorce, her grandfather's passing, conflicts with classmates, the pressure of exams, and her teachers' reminders: these all made up the rainy season of He Qin's youth.
She hoped the rainy season would never return.
Purpose: To portray the struggles and growth, love and repression of high school students through stories of youth
