[Short Story | Silly and Sweet Romance | Bickering Couple | Whimsical Sweet Fiction]
Lu Shi'an and Qu Xiaochun are the most famous rivals in their office building.
He's obsessed with five-spice quail eggs, while she insists on plain ones. Every afternoon at five, a "quail egg battle" is guaranteed to break out in front of the convenience store freezer.
Then one day, they fight over the eggs so fiercely that they crush the carton. A flash of white light, and they're both pulled into a rift in time and space!
The System "Dandan" issues an order: they must work together to collect enough "delicious energy" to get home. Fail, and they'll turn into real quail eggs. If the other person doesn't eat or kiss them within ten minutes, they'll be eggs forever!
"Like I'd ever kiss him/her!!" they shout in unison.
And so begins a chaotic adventure through one challenge after another: blindfolded feeding ends with an egg shoved up someone's nose; they transmigrate as eggs and roll all over the palace while the imperial cat chases them; they try carving each other's "good qualities" onto eggshells, but all they come up with is "loud" and "stubborn"...
But in a pure white space, they also share their first heartfelt embrace. In the Quail Egg Empire, each is willing to become an egg to protect the other.
Their initial mutual dislike slowly turns into an unbreakable bond, and their rivalry finally takes on a different flavor.
Back in the real world, at the convenience store, Lu Shi'an lets go of the eggs he was fighting over. "From now on, you can have both the five-spice and the plain ones."
Later, he gets down on one knee with a quail egg engraved with the word "love." "Marry me."
With red eyes, Qu Xiaochun says, "You still haven't paid me back for the stomach medicine and milk tea you owe me!"
Lu Shi'an smiles. "Can I spend the rest of my life paying you back?"
