The Days We Slowed Down is a novel about youth, growing up, love, and the choices we make in life. Following Cheng Muchuan's personal journey, it tells the story of how he leaves his naive school days and enters society, exploring and stumbling forward amid friendship, love, entrepreneurship, and the collisions of reality. When we're young, we're always in a hurry to grow up, make money, and prove ourselves, often overlooking what we truly want deep down. Only as we make our way through life do we gradually understand that we don't have to be first at everything, and there's no single standard for happiness. May everyone who is growing up and striving forward come to understand themselves through life's ups and downs, and find the person and way of life they truly love. Later, we all slowed down. We only hope that every step from here on leads toward the life we want.
Theme: Grounded in the realities of life, the story follows Cheng Muchuan over sixteen years, interweaving childhood memories, growing up, love and friendship, workplace relationships, social complexities, and reflections on life. With sharp, humorous, yet restrained narration, it portrays how an ordinary person gradually comes to know himself amid the interplay of time, human nature, and reality. It captures the passion and immaturity of youth, the sincerity and scheming in relationships, and the things that, years later, we look back on and realize we once could not understand or let go of, but eventually learned to take in stride.
