A so-called child of the gods must surely be a god after birth. But what if it hasn't been born yet?
A little orb of light with only the faintest awareness had no idea who it was. The first humanoid being it met was a sword spirit, who called it Little Crow. Is Little Crow my name? The little orb wondered, then quickly accepted it and decided to lie flat.
Then, after an accident, Little Crow found another Little Crow. The little orb, now much shorter, promptly dropped the name and claimed the title of Baby instead. That had to be right this time, didn't it? It assured itself.
Wait, where's Anija? How strange. Where did Anija go?
The little orb began a game of searching for Anija, and Little Crow was forced to join in. Along the way, they passed through other worlds. The little orb looked and looked. This one wasn't it, and neither was that one.
From Higekiri's point of view: Look who I found, a new little brother! Great, I'm taking him home! Years later, watching his little brother steadily shrink, Higekiri noticed the scent of time and space on him. He must have found him right after he was born, Higekiri deftly convinced himself.
That is, until the original spirit told him he was going to become Papa-kiri. Higekiri's pupils shook with shock. He was actually a baby? Wait, what do you mean there was an accident and the child went missing? Aren't you the original spirit?
Note: There are lots of personal headcanons. This is my first work after returning to the fandom, and I'm not familiar with the newer swords at all, so they won't appear. Characterization may be out of character.
