Modern-day gold-digger Su Li is in a car accident and wakes up in 1973. In six months, her family will swap her into a marriage with a fool, leaving her trapped in the muddy countryside for the rest of her life. She gets into the city by helping her cousin through postpartum recovery, then uses her advantages to find three possible husbands and save herself, but each attempt falls through.
Her first plan brings her up against a bottomless, self-righteous do-gooder. She gets out in time, while Gu Changlin, a cold-eyed scrap dealer, sees through her scheme at a glance and looks at her with contempt.
The man she picks the second time is too timid to protect her. She's publicly humiliated as everyone watches for entertainment, and only Gu Changlin speaks up for her.
The man she chooses the third time is an opportunist who backs out of the marriage at the last minute. With her last hope gone, she plans to jump into the river as a way to force the issue and silence the whole town's gossip. Though she's a strong swimmer, Gu Changlin pulls her out.
Su Li frowns to herself. Why is this man everywhere she goes?
