After Harry accidentally sees the memory of the Black Lake incident involving Snape, his idealized image of his father's generation shatters.
At Sirius's side, Mary listens as Harry voices his doubts:
"Lily would be proud of you, Harry. Clearly, you're more mature than James and Sirius were back then."
"But in memories Snape has long since forgotten, I was also the Mudblood who would be strung upside down and humiliated by Slytherins just for walking down a corridor."
"And the Levicorpus you saw was only the mildest joke they ever played on me... Back then, they preferred Dark Magic."

This story is told from the perspective of a Muggle-born girl who was bullied by Slytherins like Avery and Mulciber, both notorious for their Dark Magic. She cannot forgive Snape for treating the use of Dark Magic on a fellow student as a joke in front of Lily, or the many other Death Eaters.
