Synopsis
Words Become Law tells the story of the young Chen Xu, who gains the power to make anything he says come true. He was once an ordinary, impoverished man, dissatisfied with reality and longing for money, status, love, and a life others would envy. But after he casually says, "I want to die," he really does die, only to return to the world of the living as a soul. From then on, he discovers that everything he says becomes reality: when he wants money, a huge sum appears in his account; when he wants a home, he moves into a luxury penthouse; when he wants someone else to succeed, they become famous overnight.
At first, Chen Xu revels in the satisfaction his power brings, believing he can finally control his fate. But gradually, he realizes that every wish seems to come with some imperceptible cost. One person after another enters his life: Lin Jian, who lost his father; Lu Chuan, who longs for success; Zhou Ye, a hardworking delivery driver; Gu Bei, lost in ambition; Jiang Mo, a reporter seeking the truth; and Tang Zhi, a teacher who teaches him to take responsibility. Some benefit from the wishes, some lose things because of them, and some are shown in Chen Xu's dreams dying before their time.
Chen Xu begins to understand that words becoming law is not true freedom. It's like a boundless transaction, or a debt that keeps accumulating. Money, looks, houses, success, and resurrection may all come from things someone else has lost. Every time he tries to save, control, or bring someone back, he may trap them in a different fate. He thinks he can decide everyone's life, but gradually realizes that he is the one being controlled by wishes, fear, and obsession.
As the truth comes to light, Chen Xu discovers that he may have died at seventeen. None of what is happening now is a true rebirth. It is an illusion woven from the wishes, regrets, and resentment of countless people. He possesses this power, yet it consumes him. He keeps trying to live, but has never truly been alive.
The story ends on Day 66. Chen Xu no longer clings to control, rushes to make wishes, or thinks of himself as a god or a devil. At last, he understands that every word a person speaks can create a room inside their heart, and true freedom isn't getting everything. It's accepting one's fear, mistakes, losses, and ordinariness. The end of words becoming law isn't omnipotence, but the deepest understanding of what it means to be alive, found after the silence.
