When Xie Lang first arrived at Peach Blossom Cove, she thought the people there had a lot of rules.
You had to carry a peach branch when you went out, brew wine at the right hour, and even pack several days in advance before setting off in a carriage. She would hear these things and forget them, always assuming there was plenty of time to learn what she didn't know and make up for what she'd missed.
That Mid-Autumn Festival, all the peach blossoms in the cove suddenly closed.
Only after she left the mountain gate with a jade purification bottle did she understand just how far away the world outside was, the world her mother had spoken of.
The nine provinces were dotted with immortal sects. Some made a name for themselves with a single sword strike; some spent a hundred years without ever entering the Dao. Others neither sought immortality nor asked to ascend, wishing only for their loved ones to return safely from far away. Xie Lang traveled and learned along the way. Sometimes she saved people, and often others came to her rescue. Gradually, she made a few friends and gained a traveling companion who wasn't easy to get along with.
Pei Zhaoshu looked gentle, but he had plenty of opinions of his own. His injuries hadn't fully healed, yet he had no shortage of rules. She didn't know then that many of the tales she'd heard along the way were connected to him.
Beyond the mountains, there were still more mountains, and the road ahead was long.
She wanted to carry the spring scenery her mother had never seen and travel farther into the human world.
