Would you like to be a human kept as a pet?
You notice that, starting one day, the world seems a little different. A small cat passes by on the street corner, exactly like the one that kept you company for fourteen years. You accidentally break a model figure, but when you look again, it's been restored. A neighboring country is on the brink of war, so you wish for world peace. The next morning, the war seems never to have happened, and every related entry has disappeared...
Unfortunately, it seems no one but you realizes that "the world is being corrected at every moment."
You gradually become less materialistic. First you wonder if the Mandela effect is real, then you wonder if ghosts and gods really exist. You believe that none of this is a mere illusion.
But you can't preserve any evidence of the past. Photos, recordings, security footage, all of it disappears without a trace once a terrible event is "corrected."
You don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.
But the world you live in is getting better and better, isn't it?
-
You are an immortal.
You are the only immortal in the world, and you will never die.
No one knows why you became immortal, but you have personally seen your family, your friends, your cat, your dog... and finally your country, your home planet, the civilization and memories you once cared about, all pass away.
Everything has fallen silent, but you are still alive.
You live on alone until you find the surviving spark of life from your home planet. Together, you build a strange civilization in a new star system, a place where anything bizarre and absurd is allowed, as long as it helps you survive.
Technology gradually advances until it becomes possible to monitor the "past."
Suddenly, you wonder: if it were possible, could your home planet have been spared its destruction?
You try to make a few "changes" in secret.
The first person you track down is your own younger "self."
He is still young, not yet aware of the long, endless fate he will face. He thinks he's just an ordinary person. He grows up, says goodbye to people, and has joys and sorrows of his own.
You have experienced every joy and sorrow he once felt.
Your heart, long untouched by emotion, begins to feel joy and sorrow again because of him, that "former self."
And so, inevitably, you develop a selfish desire.
You capture the genes of the cat he once raised and use advanced technology to cure its illness. You help him repair his broken model figure. You know how many lives that war will claim, and you know he can't bear it.
You can't bear to see him "unable to bear it."
No one in the world understands you better than you do, the only immortal in the universe.
Not long afterward, you get a brand-new opportunity: a "space-time portal."
Open it, and you can leave this bizarre civilization behind and return to the home you have not seen in ages, to meet the "only" one in the universe...
yourself.
Now, will you go and see him?
