When Xu Run was alive, her greatest hobby was hiking.
Getting close to nature, exercising, and cultivating her mind.
Mostly, it didn't cost a thing.
She had always planned to quit her job and travel once she had saved enough money. But before she could save enough, the world ended.
The zombie apocalypse. The whole world fell.
Xu Run fled all the way to Buenos Aires, South America, and finally boarded a ship bound for humanity's last sanctuary, aka Antarctica.
Then a zombie outbreak erupted aboard, and she fell into the sea.
Xu Run: OK, fine.
When she opened her eyes again, she was standing on the seabed. Her heart had stopped, she no longer breathed, and she was stone-cold dead.
The bad news: She had become a zombie.
The good news: No need to eat, drink, use the bathroom, or breathe.
Xu Run slowly lowered her head and looked at her legs, which could still walk.
A very shameless yet extremely cost-effective travel plan gradually took shape.
Food and lodging: free.
Transportation: free.
Requesting time off: not applicable.
Return date: to hell with it.
She canceled her plan to flee to Antarctica on the spot and decided to visit South Africa to see the penguins first.
The Atlantic Ocean in between?
No big deal.
She used to look at maps and think she couldn't cross the blue parts. Now she could.
From then on, a zombie with a tattered backpack wandered around the apocalypse.
She crossed ruined cities and climbed snow-covered mountains, investigated whether she could still sneak into abandoned tourist sites without paying, and cursed the lousy navigation service after getting lost in the deep sea.
Along the way, she met strange people and strange corpses.
Some accompanied her for a while, some let her stay for a few days, and others raised their guns at her.
Xu Run raised her hands with practiced ease. "Don't shoot, I'm traveling on a shoestring!"
