Jiang Lai can't help looking back. Song Shi was the campus heartthrob who was all the rage back in their student days, and a fellow student in her management school.
At university, Song Shi was very tall and fair-skinned. His face could rival a TV star's, and he left a deep impression on Jiang Lai. She only remembers that, by some strange coincidence, they always seemed to sign up for the same classes. Back then, the girls would secretly try to sit near Song Shi, and even had a few minor spats over seats.
As for anything else about Song Shi, Jiang Lai doesn't know much.
She had a boyfriend back then, from a different school in the same city. They had started dating in high school. They were deeply in love, but constantly clashed. With the pressure of studying at Jing University, their relationship eventually fizzled out during their sophomore year. Jiang Lai wasn't sad, though, because she didn't have time to be. She was busy preparing for all kinds of competitions and exams.
University wasn't an easy beginning. Jiang Lai wasn't especially ambitious, but she didn't want to come in last. Jing University was full of geniuses from all over the country, and even the smallest gap between geniuses was hard to close, so she worked pretty hard.
Later, after graduating, Jiang Lai followed the usual path into a state-owned enterprise. After a few years without any major accomplishments, she still managed to land a management position. Fortunately, Jiang Lai was already from Jing City and didn't have to worry about buying a home. The job paid just enough, neither too much nor too little, for the young lady of the Jiang family to live in luxury.
After graduation, Jiang Lai dated several people and ran into Song Shi a few times in Jing City. But they never got to know each other. They were simply alumni who exchanged nods when they met.
But lately... Jiang Lai suddenly realized that she'd been running into Song Shi almost every day this month.
