The Uchiha found a red-eyed girl among the dead. Her eyes were not the Sharingan, and her origins were a mystery.
The clan leader gave his orders: Keep her and observe her. If she proves useful, let her live. If not, kill her.
She carved out a way to survive with her own hands: making poisons, concocting medicines, studying corpses, and hiding an unknown underground chamber in a remote corner of the clan grounds.
She said, "Some things are more worth studying after they die than while they are alive."
Later, she became Uchiha Madara's shadow guard, confidante, kindred spirit, and lover.
She saw the night he awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan and transplanted his younger brother's eyes for him with her own hands. She stayed by his side through the "death" at the Valley of the End. Throughout the long years he lived in seclusion, she deflected hidden attacks for him and saw through lies, including those of the mysterious being who claimed to be his will.
She spent her whole life studying medicine and secret techniques. Only at the end did she understand that the one remedy capable of saving him was herself.
***!! A story idea from sixth grade, now being heavily revised and restarted. Updates whenever inspiration strikes. Some parts are melodramatic and old-fashioned, so apologies for all of it. Apologies for any character inaccuracies. The original plot has been extensively changed; Izuna survives, Black Zetsu is outmaneuvered, and the ending is tragic. If that's not for you, please move along in peace.
Theme: Belonging and the self.
