[Everyone's Favorite Heroine] [Winning Her Back] [Love Triangle]
Zheng Shuer is peerlessly beautiful, but she lost her husband while still young and became a widow.
Her father and elder brother came to her together and ordered her to enter the palace.
Her elder sister, born of the principal wife, had spent five years in the palace without bearing a child and was on the verge of falling out of favor. In their desperation, the family thought of Zheng Shuer.
Zheng Shuer had never wanted to remain a widow. She could marry a man or marry the emperor, so she agreed.
The emperor was indeed wonderful, a thousand times better than her late husband.
Strong and handsome, he pleased her greatly.
But her elder sister didn't seem very pleased, and neither did the many women in the palace.
It's always hard to please everyone in this world, but making sure those people don't have to see you seems like a good solution.
That night, Zheng Shuer wrapped her arms around the emperor's neck and asked him if she could be the only woman in the palace.
The emperor held her by the waist and said with a smile that she shouldn't be so willful.
Willful, willful.
Zheng Shuer thought that in her whole life, she'd never been willful. Her late husband had only ever had her as his wife.
The emperor did not stay that night, and for the next half month, he did not come to see her again.
A month later, a new woman arrived in the palace.
Zheng Shuer more or less understood what the emperor meant. She went to see her elder sister, who was still aggrieved and dissatisfied, then fled the palace.
In the first year, she went to the frontier. People said the northern tribesmen were strong and virile, and sure enough, she met a strapping, handsome man. Unfortunately, he was far too clingy, and it took all her strength to get away.
In the second year, she went to Jiangnan. She'd heard that scholars were the most cultured and courteous, and sure enough, she met a refined gentleman. But his elegance was only skin-deep. After just a few meetings, he was already talking about marrying her, so she was frightened into fleeing by carriage in the middle of the night.
In the third year, she heard that her elder sister had died. Deeply moved, she returned to Chang'an for a look, only to find the emperor blocking the entrance.
The emperor looked a little mad. He stood in her way, insisting on taking her back to the palace.
Zheng Shuer was about to humor him with a few empty words when she spotted a familiar face at the mouth of the alley. The northern tribesman was peering in with a group of men?
And over on the other side... was that young gentleman from the south?
Zheng Shuer took the emperor's hand and said with heartfelt sincerity, "Your Majesty, I already have other men, so I won't be returning to the palace with you, all right?"
The emperor's eyes reddened, and his voice trembled. "You have someone else? How dare you have someone else?"
Zheng Shuer pointed behind him. "Your Majesty, those two men of mine are waiting for me over there!"
The emperor turned around in a fury, and at last her three men met.
Zheng Shuer thought that she couldn't stay in Chang'an now, either. She would have to join a merchant caravan and spend a few years traveling through the Western Regions to lie low.
She also thought that if her late husband had lived a little longer, perhaps she might have been able to settle down and behave herself.
