Story Preview:
Shen Jing Yu and Li Yue Ran are ninth-grade students at the same school. One day, for no apparent reason, Shen Jing Yu suddenly becomes a walking jinx.
It always rains when she goes out. She trips for no reason while walking, and anyone who meets her has bad luck. Once, all she did was take a taxi, but the car ended up plunging into an artificial lake not far from their destination. Because she was so unlucky, no one wanted to be her friend, and she was treated unfairly and coldly. Li Yue Ran, on the other hand, had always been a lucky star. She could guess randomly on an exam and still get the answers right. When it rained, even the Thunder God and Goddess of Lightning would show her respect and stop the rain at once. Whenever she went out, she was sure to find money. Though cold and unfeeling, her good luck helped her make friends wherever she went. One night, Shen Jing Yu did badly on an exam, and her mother was so angry she slapped her. The next morning, her mother got into a car accident on her way to work. The right hand she'd used to hit Shen Jing Yu was crushed and needed immediate surgery, but her father had already divorced her mother and refused to pay the medical expenses. After Shen Jing Yu asked classmates and relatives for help to no avail, she returned home to find an "uninvited guest" inside: a mysterious person in a black cloak with wide sleeves. The person tossed her a rainbow telephone-cord hair tie, a token used to travel through the worlds of various instances, and told her, "There will be a rainbow after the storm. You'll meet your sunshine."
Shen Jing Yu: That voice sounds so familiar...
(She looks up...)
Shen Jing Yu: Li... Li Yue Ran?!
What she didn't know was that the wheels of fate were turning silently...
As one side of the scales rises and the other falls, joy and sorrow, fortune and misfortune must all be exchanged in equal measure...
Light and shadow shift, and fate measures all with a ruler. Fortune and misfortune are the weights, one side of the scales rising as the other falls. This is the truth of equal exchange.
Theme: People often lose all humanity and conscience for the sake of profit, sinking into moral depravity.
