[Ambitious, strong-willed older woman Song Yurong vs. scheming, devoted younger man Xu Zhihao]
From a refugee in a time of chaos to a maid in the Wang household, then a concubine to a provincial governor, Song Yurong thought her life would finally be peaceful.
But as her husband Xu Zhihao's official rank rose and he followed in the footsteps of his adoptive father, seeking to take the throne for himself, Song Yurong knew that success or failure would be decided in a single night.
When Xu Zhihao cast her aside as a pawn sacrificed for power and sent her to live in a separate residence, she knew that without power, everything was just scattered sand.
But she had no support and could do nothing. Just as she was sinking into darkness, Buddha gave her hope.
“Yurong, I'm sorry. I came too late.”
Song Yurong watched Xu Zhihao arrive, but felt no joy at all.
“What brings you here?”
“To take you back and make you my wife.”
“But I don't love you anymore.” My heart already belongs to Buddha.
“Then whom do you love?”
“I love power, the kind of power no one can take away from me.”
“Then I'll give you that power.”
And so, not long after, the new dynasty saw two rulers govern together.
What's more, Xu Zhihao left an edict naming Empress Song Yurong as his successor. She ascended the throne and was known to history as Emperor Liang Wen.
Key details: The woman is five years older than the man. She was married once before and has a daughter. Neither lead is a virgin. Both leads are people of the past, and their thinking is shaped by the limitations of their era.
Inspired by Li Bian (Xu Zhigao), founding emperor of Southern Tang, and Empress Song Fujin. However, the setting is a jumble of different eras, so please don't nitpick the history.
Theme: Stay true to yourself and cherish the present
