Zhou Ruoning had been secretly observing the new neighbor who'd moved in next door for several days. Her conclusions were as follows:
Ruggedly handsome, aloof, and muscular. The biceps hidden beneath his black T-shirt looked even thicker than her thighs.
After hearing Zhou Ruoning's description, her friend asked if she felt a spark.
Zhou Ruoning pressed a hand to her chest, took a moment to feel, then answered: Yes.
Her friend was thrilled and encouraged her to be brave and go for it.
Zhou Ruoning agreed, but the next day, when she came face-to-face with the man in the hallway outside her home, she turned around and rushed back inside in fright.
"He looks so fierce and unapproachable. Maybe I shouldn't be brave after all."

An accident happened during a road trip, and Jin Yang and his girlfriend, Zhou Ruoning, were both admitted to the hospital.
The good news: They were both alive. The bad news: She'd lost her memory and forgotten him.
Jin Yang worried that if he told Zhou Ruoning about their relationship outright, she wouldn't be able to accept it.
So he rented the apartment next door and became her neighbor.
Jin Yang thought: If Zhou Ruoning can't remember him, he'll pursue her all over again.

Zhou Ruoning's social anxiety kicked in, and she stayed cooped up at home for nearly half a month. Worried about her safety, Jin Yang finally made up an excuse to go over.
The knock at the door sent Zhou Ruoning into a panic. Peering through the peephole, she saw the new neighbor who looked so difficult to get along with standing outside.
She opened the door nervously. Before Jin Yang could say a word, Zhou Ruoning's vision went black and she fainted into his arms.
Jin Yang reacted quickly, scooping her up and carrying her to the hospital. But just as they stepped into the elevator, he heard her weakly say:
"I just have low blood sugar..."
Half an hour later, Zhou Ruoning sat at Jin Yang's dining table while he fed her.
Her new neighbor, busy in the kitchen with an apron tied around his waist, didn't seem quite so fierce after all.

1. Happy ending, one couple. The heroine's name is Zhou Ruoning. The character Ruo means "vast."
