Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio: Fox Talk and Nonsense

(A little author’s note: Wenhu is a compound surname!) Wenhu Xixian had been a person in the modern world, but one day she awoke in the body of a fox. Time passed strangely in the mountains. A hundred years flashed by, and she forgot her entire past life, retaining only her sunny disposition and a head full of deadpan jokes. One day, carrying a mouse through the woods, she was suddenly grabbed by the leg. “Fox immortal, please save me!” Wenhu glanced at him and smiled. “Human, just follow me. I’ve lived in these woods since I was little. I’ve been here a thousand years now.” Stars lit up in the man’s eyes. Wenhu continued, “And I still haven’t found my way out.” His face stiffened like stone. Wenhu laughed with delight. Xiao Yizhen was a young doctor, kind-hearted and naturally mischievous. Yet whenever he saw Wenhu, his face flushed, his words failed him, and he didn’t know what to do with himself. * People said there were demons in the world, but Xiao didn’t believe them. People said foxes were seductive, but Xiao shook his head. That was until a demon tossed him into the depths of the forest and he met this fox himself. From then on, he believed, followed, and fell in love. The fox said, “I’m not a fox. I’m a person.” Xiao said solemnly, “Every word the Fox Immortal says is true.” And so begins a light, sweet, fantastical romance with the flavor of Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. Theme: Sincerity can break through prejudice, and laughter can carry us through hardship. All things have a spirit, but only a true heart never lets us down.
