Synopsis
Sunny, outgoing, and adorably straightforward like a cat
&
Moody and smug, all bark and no bite, a sensitive little puppy
At eighteen, Shen Zhizhi's biggest worry was avoiding the sudden death sentence hanging over her.
The cause of this disaster traced back to a famed genius of the Ruthless Dao.
That day, she had only meant to sneak off for a little break in the back hills, but for no reason at all, some villain kidnapped her and took her hostage.
The young man walking toward her was impeccably dressed and effortlessly charming.
Unfortunately,
he couldn't care less whether she lived or died.
Even more unbelievable,
all the disciples in the sect said he was kindhearted, the sort of person who wouldn't even step on an ant, a truly good man.
But what was this version of him right in front of her supposed to be...
And he really was all looks and no substance, with nothing but a handsome face and a downright awful way of speaking!
After just a few exchanges, they parted on bad terms. Before leaving, the young man even twisted the knife:
"You're going to die."
Shen Zhizhi: I'd only die because you annoyed me to death!
^
Less than two days later,
his words came true.
With no other choice, the girl had to take the initiative and ask him to work with her.
But this senior brother's tongue was coated in poison.
He shattered Shen Zhizhi's dreams of survival with a single blow:
"Why should I help someone who's about to die?"
Shen Zhizhi was sad. Shen Zhizhi was confused.
Still, luckily, he eventually gave her a clue:
Soul-Severing Grass.
Shen Zhizhi thought they would never cross paths again,
but on the way to a trial, the two of them were swept up in a demon clan's sacrificial ritual.
,
At last, she understood why that arrogant, unruly young man of the Ruthless Dao had refused to help her. There was another reason.
He needed revenge, and he needed something inside her to get it.
And the only way to obtain it was after she died...
So he had been hoping she'd die all along...
And the Soul-Severing Grass had just been a lie...
Later, when danger struck and her life was about to end,
she thought someone would finally get their wish.
But the young man suddenly stepped in front of her.
He caught the arrow flying toward her with his bare hand, without even blinking.
Bright red beads of blood slid down the shaft.
The person who usually cared most about keeping clean
now had sleeves soaked in crimson.
How strange.
Wasn't he out for revenge?
Didn't he want her dead?
Besides,
wasn't he cultivating the Ruthless Dao?
Could a disciple of the Ruthless Dao even know what it meant to like someone?!
^^^^^
Fate is a silent conspiracy, a forgotten past between childhood friends, a storm sweeping in with towering waves, pushing the two of them little by little into the eye of it all.
Early Shen Zhizhi: Why does this guy pick a fight with me at every turn, yet the whole sect adores him?
Later Shen Zhizhi: What is he being so difficult about?! Does a cultivator of the Ruthless Dao really have some secret, unspoken feelings of a young man?
(Female lead grows over time; she starts out pretty weak.)
(The male lead is a little pain in the neck.)
Also known as: "Two Little Bitter Melons Save Each Other"
Romance is just so much better when it's between young people!
