The military male assigned as Isari’s mate was a survivor of an undercover mission. His injuries and mental breakdown had forced him out of the maelstrom of power struggles, and he was reassigned from the Central Star System to a remote, underdeveloped planet, bringing an astronomically large fortune with him.
With his family fallen on hard times, Isari was anxious. Before their meeting, he studied a hundred hours of mental-comfort techniques, day and night.
He never expected the military male to kneel on one knee and pin the medals symbolizing his glory onto Isari’s lapel, one by one.
With a devout expression, he kissed Isari’s fingertips.
“Do you remember? Have we met before?”
Mental breakdown disorder among the insect race causes hallucinations, delusions, emotional instability, and abnormal behavior.
But the military male was as docile as a lamb around Isari. Every session of mental comfort went smoothly, to the point that Isari began to wonder whether the diagnosis was even reliable.
Until Zerus repeatedly said things Isari couldn’t understand:
“I admired you back when I was in school. I never imagined a day would come when I could be by your side.”
At last, it slowly dawned on him that perhaps Zerus’s symptoms made him mistake Isari for another male insect.
It was all right. Isari could spin lie after lie, using tenderness and intimacy to distract Zerus and put off the day he was transferred elsewhere.
He deliberately ignored the fact that this was, in fact, the best way to treat mental breakdown disorder.
Perhaps one day, the military male would glare at him fiercely and spread his sharp bone wings between them.
“...You deceived me, Isari.”
The sensitive male insect had worried about countless things, but this had never happened.
Only belatedly did Isari realize...
He and Zerus really had met before, many, many times.
Reader’s note:
1. This is an unconventional insect-race story with lots of original worldbuilding. The author is easily sidetracked into strange topics while writing.
2. An unconventional hurt/comfort story, written to indulge myself.
3. After the military male’s cover was blown, he was tortured until his reproductive cavity was damaged, but there is no non-consensual sex.
4. The two protagonists are both immature, imperfect kids. Feel free to complain about the author if you dislike them.
5. Thanks for reading! I hope you all find stories you love.
Also serializing a short redemption story: The Early-Deceased Wife of a Healing-Type Villain [GB]
Wan Sui, a psychic ability user, was struck by backlash after concentrating her power to attack a seventh-rank beast. She had little time left to live.
Just as she was preparing to wait quietly for death, the base bought her a healing-type ability user.
The slender young man had a pair of timid eyes. It seemed that his unusual healing ability had made him a target for bullies at other bases.
Wan Sui reproached the base for giving her more work just as she was about to die. She foresaw that after her death, the young man, weak as he was, would be seized and exploited by one person after another, passed around like an object among the elites of several bases for their amusement. The base she had built would come under attack from all sides and eventually fall apart amid a tide of beasts.
It was all because she had died too soon.
With no choice, Wan Sui did her best to strengthen the base in the little time she had left, while also teaching the young man. She didn’t expect him to become an asset to the base. She just wanted him to be able to protect himself.
On the day she died, as her consciousness grew hazy, Wan Sui saw him looking distraught as he tremblingly climbed into her coffin and took her fingertip into his mouth.
The young man’s face was flushed. When he raised his eyes by chance, he saw Wan Sui’s spirit staring at him in shock.
Wan Sui: Wait... Lan Mu, what are you doing?
Lan Mu: Sorry. You never used me while you were alive...
Wan Sui: You can hear me?
She began to wonder whether she was actually dead or not.
In the future Wan Sui never saw, there was a great villain who endured endless torment and grew weary of the world, filled with pessimism.
He slaughtered the people who had once humiliated him and collected their abilities, all in the hope of bringing his wife back to life.
