Yan is the male lead, Yan Ye, while Manluo is the female lead. An inkstone is an elegant, refined treasure, yet it has grown a poisonous Manluo flower. It represents her, covered in thorns, intruding into a privileged and peaceful world, and two completely different lives becoming entangled as they grow together.
Yan Ye: "He inherited his mother's gentle, scholarly nature. The 'wild' in his name represents his defiance, his refusal to be confined by his family's destiny. He has everything the world covets, but no sense of self. He lacks nothing except a sincere heart free of ulterior motives."
Manluo: "Like the Manluo flower, she appears gentle and mild, but is poisonous through and through. She has always put down roots in the mud and struggled to survive, doing everything she can to seize whatever chance she has to live. She isn't afraid of hardship. What she fears most is having others laugh at her struggle."
