Blurb
A battle-worn lion cast out of his home vs. a little rabbit covered in bruises.
*
The little rabbit grew up in a well-off rabbit family, wanting for nothing.
Her parents and siblings adored her as she grew up, and she dreamed of marrying a hero from a fairy tale and living happily in a castle.
Then a glittering prince came to the rabbit family, hoping to marry the little rabbit.
The little rabbit was captivated by the handsome, glittering prince, and her heart pounded. After asking the little rabbit what she wanted, her family accepted the prince's proposal.
The little rabbit was taken to the prince's country and settled in his castle.
The prince, once gentle and humble, changed when he returned home. His brothers and sisters, and even his mother, bared their fangs.
The little rabbit was terrified. She wanted to run away, to go home...
Her once beautiful, lustrous fur turned dusty and dull from hunger. She became the laughingstock of the court: Miss Rabbit, bruised and battered.
Life... Life wasn't a fairy tale at all.
Sob...
Two years later, the prince became king. The little rabbit was tormented at every turn, and to survive, she could only become more obedient and docile.
The king wanted to humiliate her.
Drunk at a banquet, he announced in front of all his ministers that he would marry the little rabbit off to his own uncle.
Hmph!
The king's uncle was a disgraced lion who had lost a leg and just suffered a defeat in battle.
They said he was arrogant and had a terrible temper. He had once ripped the heads off several nearby lords with his claws.
The little rabbit was so frightened that her fur stood on end. She hid under the covers and cried all night.
The next day, with her eyes still red, the maids carried her out, dressed her in a wedding gown, and took her to the ceremony.
The wedding was held on the grasslands.
The young, one-legged lion looked impatient. He grabbed the little white rabbit by the scruff and tossed her onto his back.
The little white rabbit fearfully splayed her limbs, clinging to his soft golden mane.
Afraid to look up, she hid there, trembling.
Pressing her face against her husband's back, the little white rabbit panted, "The king and the others won't find me, will they?"
The lion gave a quiet snort and carried his new wife away.
Having lost a leg, he could no longer walk with the imposing swagger he once had. It infuriated him, especially to make a fool of himself in front of these people and be treated like a joke.
But the little bundle of trouble on his back shyly said to him, "I've never seen the grasslands from such a high place. They're so beautiful... Thank you."
