Lin Yao, a senior in college, starts a one-month internship at a company. She's afraid she won't do a good job. She has an engineering student's brain and a part-time model's face. When she's nervous, she licks her lips. She can't say what she's really thinking, so she always ends with some abstract remark instead. Jiang Li, the full-time employee assigned to mentor her, has been with the team for over four years. She's an ENFP, a happy little puppy who's nice to everyone: she brings candy for the whole team, jokes around with anyone, and helps everyone without playing favorites. On Lin Yao's first day, she teases her and coaxes her into calling her “big sister.” In the evening, Lin Yao admits that she's inexperienced and afraid she'll mess up. Jiang Li stops joking and says seriously, “I'll teach you.” Then she really does, going over the work with her again and again until the setting sun falls across her face. Lin Yao thinks it's all too wonderful. But she soon realizes Jiang Li isn't only kind to her. She's the same with Zheng Nan and everyone else. Lin Yao has treasured “I'll teach you” as something unique, but she can't find a single thing that's just for her.
Theme: There's nothing wrong with kindness shown equally to everyone, and those who take it to heart haven't lost.
