On the third day after realizing she liked Chen Jin, Shu Man said to him, “Chen Jin, lift your head a little.”
Chen Jin had no idea what she was up to, but he obediently raised his head. “What is it?”
He didn’t tilt it back far enough, so Shu Man simply did it herself. She held both sides of Chen Jin’s face and tipped his head up a little more.
At last, the tiny light-brown mole appeared in her line of sight again. Shu Man’s face lit up with delight, and she exclaimed, “Chen Jin, you have a mole here!”
At her words, Chen Jin paused. “A mole? Me?”
Shu Man tapped the spot with her index finger. “Here. You have a little mole here. You didn’t even know?”
Her finger was soft, and his chin tingled.
The next second, Shu Man let go and excitedly pointed to her left eyebrow. “Chen Jin, what a coincidence! I have a mole on my face too. Our moles are even the same color, faint and tiny, and so inconspicuous you can barely see them unless you look closely!”
With her finger still pointing at her left eyebrow, Shu Man leaned close to Chen Jin. “See it? Chen Jin, I have a mole here too!”
Chen Jin looked where she pointed, but his gaze fell on her pale pink fingertip. The same finger had touched his chin, then tapped the space between her brows.
Chen Jin smiled, his voice calm and steady. “Mm, I see it.”
I saw it a long time ago.
“Isn’t it such a coincidence?”
The curve of Chen Jin’s mouth widened. “It really is.”
Their eyes met, both sparkling with amusement over the secret little mole they shared, the only mole on either of their faces.
