Child of God

Lin Dongmian's senses were far too keen.

When someone approached, the first thing he heard was their soft breathing, not their footsteps;

The first thing he sensed was blood flowing through their vessels, not the sound waves of their voice;

The first things he picked up were the subtle shifts in the air, the refraction of light, and the stirring of dust, not the shape drawing near.

He had always thought he was too sensitive.

Until he realized that magic existed in this world.

Fire mages summoned fireballs, water mages conjured bubbling streams from thin air, earth mages shifted the soil and shook the ground, and wood mages made plants grow wildly until they blotted out the sky.

They hid behind the veil, multiplying beneath the surface of mortal society, and called themselves descendants of the gods.

Then Lin Dongmian discovered

that his magic seemed different from everyone else's.
