The afternoon sun shines through the glass windows of the used bookstore, creating golden beams of light in the dusty air. Lin Xiaoman squatted in front of the bookshelf in the corner, his fingertips lightly brushed the yellowed spines of the books, and his breath was filled with the old aroma of paper and ink.
This "Shiguang Bookstore" opened deep in the alley was a treasure she discovered by chance last week. The owner is an old man with a goatee who always likes to take a nap behind the counter and let customers rummage around.
"Pride and Prejudice..." Lin Xiaoman's eyes suddenly lit up, and she pulled out a hardcover book with a dark green cover. The gilded letters on the cover have faded a bit, and the cloth at the edges is frayed, but it reveals a kind of delicacy accumulated over time.
She opened the title page and found it written in pen "To my dearest Emily, Christmas 1847" - almost two hundred years ago.
Lin Xiaoman's heartbeat suddenly skipped a beat. She is a die-hard fan of Jane Austen, and is particularly obsessed with Pride and Prejudice. She has read it over and over again no less than ten times and can recite almost every scene and every line of dialogue.
Purpose: Traveling through Pride and Prejudice
