Original title: There Are No Gods in This World
This is a world without gods.
Yet the story takes place around a god.
Jiang Yi is the last god in this world. She wanders through it, meeting many people and protecting many places, but nowhere can preserve a trace of her, and no one remembers that she ever passed by.
One day, Jiang takes shelter from the rain in Pingcheng and casually protects the city from natural disasters. There, she meets a cloaked figure with the aura of a god. That is where the story begins.
Jiang Yi is curious. Could there really be another surviving god in this world besides her? She follows the aura and discovers a divine skeleton in the mortal realm, one that should have been returned to the Divine Ruins.
As a fellow god, she can't bear to leave someone's remains stranded in a foreign land. And so Jiang Yi begins her journey to gather the remains of the gods.
But that cloaked figure keeps competing with her for them. It's infuriating!
As Jiang Yi presses on, she uncovers secrets about the divine realm at the end of the age of the gods.
She also gradually realizes that the boy she met in Baiyi Village, the Imperial Preceptor she encountered several times in Qingzhou, and the cloaked figure who keeps competing with her for things all seem to be the same person.
She also remembers that her survival to this day was no mere stroke of luck. Someone paid a great price to keep her alive.
"Divine Lord," Lu Ru said, "this is probably the last time I'll call you that. You felt that after you'd appointed me a Martial God Envoy, the divine realm faced disaster and was on the verge of destruction only a few years later. You thought I shouldn't be buried with it. I feel the same way about you. You've existed for barely a hundred years, living in a corner of the divine realm. But this vast world is more than just the divine realm. You have yet to truly experience the worlds beyond it, and now you're supposed to fall along with the divine realm. That's not fair to you."
"And this is my selfish wish: I hope you can be like a human, with all the emotions and desires humans have, so that you can..."
Love me.
Jiang Yi watched Lu Ru slowly fade away, but she never once told him she loved him. She didn't know whether she loved Lu Ru herself. But when she carried those memories with her and Lu Ru was no longer by her side, she realized how terribly she missed him.
She followed Lu Ru's advice and traveled every inch of this vast world. The scenery was indeed beautiful, but she found it all dull. When she turned around, she could no longer find the boy who would leap for joy at the sight of her, the sunny, cheerful boy whose eyes held only her, or the harbor that had warmed and comforted her heart.
Jiang Yi thought she must have loved Lu Ru. Sadly, she no longer had the chance to tell him herself.
