Focus on Light and Shadow

The moment the camera goes out of focus, every unspoken thought blurs into a wash of light and shadow.

Wen Yu and Song Zhixia were once each other's clearest obsession in their youth. They fell in love young, with eyes only for each other, believing the years ahead would pass smoothly and their love would always remain bright and clear. But fate suddenly changed course. Misunderstandings and rumors swept over them, and a parting without time for explanation left them lost in the vast sea of humanity. Five years passed before they met again.

When they reunited, the city's lights blazed and crowds streamed past.

Wen Yu had shed the awkwardness of youth. He was steady and reserved, with an inscrutable distance in his eyes, like a camera that could no longer be brought into focus, unwilling to linger on anyone again. Song Zhixia, too, had long since reined in her once-passionate nature. Composed and restrained, she quietly locked away her old feelings deep in her heart.

After years apart, the past began to surface layer by layer. The misunderstandings left unresolved and the wounds never given time to heal were like an out-of-focus image: hazy and aching. They still cared, but didn't dare get close. They still worried about each other, yet pretended to be strangers.

A glance, then another; one tug of the heart after another. The image that had been blurred for so many years slowly came into focus. At last, they saw clearly: they hadn't parted because they no longer loved each other. They had simply been too young to protect a love so fierce.

Time passed quietly, and the dust finally settled. A love that had been out of focus for so long, weathered by the years, would eventually come into focus again and return to the person it had belonged to from the very beginning.
