After who knows how many years stuck to the bottom of the creek, I was finally lifted up in someone's hand. His hand was cold, but when it cupped me, I suddenly felt as though I had weight again. He put me in a rough clay jar and tied a silent copper bell around its neck. Every day, when he came home, he would first say to the jar, "I'm back." I couldn't speak to him. All I could do was shine a little light, like a clumsy night-light.
Only later did I learn that every day he kept me, his soul grew a little thinner. I thought that if I left, he would get better. I thought that if I faded away, he could go on being a soul ferryman in peace.
I thought.
Now that things have come to this, I can't even say "I'm sorry."
Content warnings:
1. A soul ferryman × a wisp of a remnant soul. The romance develops very slowly (extremely slowly! One of them can't speak at first.)
2. The main story is about two people falling in love while separated by a clay jar. No third party, no love triangle, just a silent copper bell and an ever-burning green lamp.
3. Very sweet at first, very angsty later (take note!). All the sweetness is in the clay jar, and it's shattered.
5. If you're here for "two people making their way to each other and ending up together," there's still time to close this page.
If you're here for "two people making their way to each other, only to never meet again for all eternity," then have a seat.
Theme: Fate cannot be defied, but love can transcend life and death, and can also confine you for the rest of your life.
