Synopsis
In the first year of Jiahe, Wei's secret agent Yin Fanhuai sneaked into Jianye disguised as a spy. With his familiarity with criminal law and forging his hometown, he used policy theory to directly attack the three stubborn problems of Dongwu's powerful and reclusive households, unbalanced reserves, and weak imperial power. He was promoted by Sun Quan to the post of imperial eunuch. He held the bronze talisman of detention and trial, and became a key chess piece to check and balance the Jiangdong gentry and school official Lu Yi. Tingwei Hao Pu wooed Yin Fan for surveillance, and betrothed his adopted daughter Yang Ruoxi to him. The two were in the same room, but they had their own concerns. They tested each other and developed a hidden empathy. Undercurrents in the court are raging, and the interests of the Huai Si patriarch and the Gu, Lu, Zhu, and Zhang Jiangdong families are in conflict. In order to support Lu Wang Sun Ba, the eldest princess Sun Luban joins forces with Quan Cong to win over Yin Fan, and uses the Tingwei Mansion to suppress the prince Sun Deng and the prince Sun He's faction. Wu Tong, a secret agent at Qingxi Taoist Temple outside the city, and Qian Yu, a musician in Princess Zhu's Mansion, were both Wei spies. They separately collected information on the reserve dispute and the Northern Expedition. Multiple secret channels connected Jiangbei and Jianye. While Yin Fan cooperated with Lv Yi of the Ministry of Economic Affairs to track down the Lu family and other wealthy families who had hidden their return, tearing apart the financial foundation of Soochow, he also dealt with relatives and noble families, waiting for opportunities to pass on the Wu army's northern expedition plan and disrupt Jiangdong's defense. He witnessed with his own eyes the displacement of tenant farmers and the rampage of tyrants. The ruthlessness in performing tasks and the compassion for civilians tore at his heart day and night. Yang Ruo, who was beside him, and his colleagues in the dark were all involuntarily involved in the whirlpool of power and intrigue. With the defeat of the Northern Expedition and the undercurrent of the dispute between the two palaces, Yin Fan holds the prison power that can stir up the court. Walking on the tip of the knife, he continues to push forward the long and lonely journey of disintegrating Soochow in the dilemma of family, country and conscience. Purpose: The human nature of individual spies is torn apart: breaking the black-and-white binary of good and evil. The protagonist Yin Fan is responsible for the Wei State's mission to overthrow Soochow. He stirs up the court with a prison knife, but he witnesses with his own eyes the suffering of the people at the bottom of Jiangdong who are exploited by the powerful and displaced by the war. The continuous tension between mission and inner compassion shows that lurkers not only have cold tasks, but also ordinary people's conscience, nostalgia and soft struggle, interpreting "Guyong is never a pure killing, but a long-term confrontation between conscience and fate." The emptiness and cruelty of power schemes in troubled times: using the dispute between the two palaces of Soochow, the factional struggle between the Huaisi Group and the Jiangdong gentry, and the calculations between relatives and school affairs as carriers, it reveals that everyone is a pawn under the checks and balances of feudal imperial power—— Princes, aristocratic families, princesses, and spies all have no control over what they do. It looks like a game in the court, but in fact they are all driven by interests. The price of the game of power will always fall on the people at the bottom. It is criticized that the struggle for power brings internal strife and disasters to people's livelihood. The background of loneliness under the shackles of identity: Regardless of Yin, Yang Ruoxi, Qian Yu, and Wu Tong, all hidden figures are burdened with disguised identities and have no real destination. The positions of the family and the country are in opposition, and the people around him are testing each other. Even if there is a weak warmth, it is blocked by the fate of the spy war. It explores the loneliness that people find difficult to reconcile in troubled times. The so-called lonely brave man is a solitary person who has no one to complain to and no place to stay. Dialectical thinking on "unification": Yin originally came to bring peace to the Wei Kingdom, but he witnessed first-hand that the people of both countries were trapped in harsh governance and war, and gradually questioned the meaning of killing and dividing for unity. He jumped out of the perspective of a single camp and reflected on the contradiction between dynastic conquest and the survival of ordinary people in the context of war. He jumped out of simple good and evil and looked at every ordinary person who could not help themselves in troubled times.
