At the beginning of the thirteenth year of Jian'an, Liu Biao fell seriously ill and Jingzhou fell into a power struggle. Mrs. Cai, Cai Mao and Zhang Yun controlled the military and political affairs, ostracizing the eldest son Liu Qi and supporting the youngest son Liu Cong. Liu Qi consulted Zhuge Liang and followed the policy of "keeping Chong'er safe outside" and went to Jiangxia. On his deathbed, Liu Biao tested Liu Bei and wanted to rely on Jingzhou to support him, but Liu Bei refused. After Liu Biao died of illness, the Cai Group kept the secret of mourning and supported Liu Cong. Cao Cao's army went south, Kuai Yue, Fu Xun and other human leaders surrendered, and Liu Cong offered Jingzhou without fighting. Liu Bei didn't know the news of the surrender until the troops came to the city, so he had to retreat south with his people. Due to the slow march, he was defeated by Cao Cao's Tiger and Leopard Cavalry at Dangyang Changban. After Zhao Yun's savior and Zhang Fei broke the bridge, Xu Shu also said goodbye to Liu Bei because his mother was captured.
Lu Su found Liu Bei in time and proposed to unite Wu to fight against Cao. Liu Bei then sent Zhuge Liang as envoy to Jiangdong. After Cao Cao occupied Jingzhou, he went down the river and wrote a letter to intimidate Sun Quan. The two factions in Jiangdong, those who wanted to surrender and those who wanted to fight, argued endlessly. Zhou Yu rushed back to explain the shortcomings of Cao's army and strengthened Sun Quan's determination to fight against Cao. Sun and Liu formally formed an alliance. Cao's army in the north was not used to water warfare, so they connected the warships with iron cables. Huang Gai offered a fire attack and pretended to surrender, and took advantage of the southeast wind to set fire. Cao's army's camp in Wulin was completely destroyed and the whole line was defeated. Cao Cao returned north in embarrassment via Huarong Road, leaving Cao Ren to guard Jiangling.
After the Battle of Chibi, Zhou Yu led his army to besiege Jiangling and had a long-term confrontation with Cao Ren. Gan Ning outsmarted Yiling and broke the siege. Liu Bei took the opportunity to take over the four counties in Jingnan, and his strength grew rapidly. Cao Cao retreated to the north and was no longer able to launch a large-scale southern expedition. Jiangdong was stabilized, Zhou Yu controlled Nanjun, and Liu Bei controlled Jingnan. The three-legged pattern was thus established.
Purpose: Using the change of ownership in Jingzhou and the battle of Chibi, it describes the choices made by people and the changes in destiny in troubled times, and reveals the historical inevitability of dividing the world into three parts.
