In 1979, antique appraiser Su Yu is brought to the old Chen family courtyard, ready to divorce Chen Jianshe, a man she has never met, and return to the city. But as soon as she enters the courtyard, she hears the old things all around her softly calling a name: that of her mother, who has long been "gone."
A jade cicada, an account book, and the words "Keep the cicada here for her daughter to collect." A marriage that begins before love, and a long-hidden story from twenty years ago, are gradually opening up to her through the lingering echoes of these objects.
Theme: When she touches objects from long ago, she can hear the fragments of words they have left behind.
