The prodigy's life went smoothly. His parents loved him, and he had a cultivation partner he intended to spend his life with.

On Sheng Yuzhao's nineteenth birthday, his cultivation partner fell to the demonic path, murdered his parents, slaughtered his entire family, and brought chaos to the world.

At twenty, Sheng Yuzhao personally sealed his beloved, now fallen to the demonic path, beneath the Demon-Sealing Mountain.

From then on, all love and hatred faded away on the wind.

Five years later, a faint tremor came from the Demon-Sealing Mountain.

The demonic cultivator Yan Wanyao returned to the world.

There were once two prodigies in the cultivation world.

Now one is consumed by love, living in seclusion and unable to progress, while the other destroyed her future, fell to the demonic path, and lies sealed beneath the mountain.

The first time Yan Wanyao met Sheng Yuzhao, she was captivated by his face. The young man wore his hair in a low ponytail, the ends reaching his waist, with a bone flute tucked in his hair. He stood quietly beneath the eaves.

Later, she discovered that this seemingly cold and unapproachable chief disciple was actually a pure-hearted young man who blushed if she teased him even a little.

She gave him spiritual artifacts, tassels, and earrings. She took him out into the mortal world and brought him to temples to pray for blessings, enriching his life with her presence.

Before Yan Wanyao fell in love with Sheng Yuzhao, Sheng Yuzhao had already fallen completely for her tenderness.

And so, that day, he heard his own heartbeat thundering in his ears.

His cultivation partner fell to the demonic path and killed his entire family, yet Sheng Yuzhao doesn't know how to hate her.

He remembers her defending the helpless, helping those in need, and caring for all living beings. He remembers her smiling brightly, too.

He doesn't know how things came to this. In the end, the only person he truly hates is himself, and he drives himself to the brink of death.

When he sees her again, he can only ask her with reddened eyes: Why didn't you tell me? Why did you keep it from me? Did you ever love me?

The story opens in the fifth year after they parted.
